Quran Burning

This story comes from FOX news. This is one subject that I believe that anyone who follows the news whatsoever already knows a little bit about. The article is a follow up on the Reverend Terry Jones. For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past two weeks Jones was planning on hosting a Quran burning this Saturday at his church in Florida. The plan has struck up quite a bit of controversy around the world, even as much to have the president state his opinion on the act. The article stated that Jones has decided against burning the Quran this weekend.

My personal opinion over this subject is as follows:

First, he has a right to burn anything he feels like burning. This is a free country; as such I can burn Bibles, Qurans, flags, bras, or whatever else I feel like burning. We should never as a country try to stop someone from expressing how they feel no matter whom the act may offend.

Second, who is really at fault here if this act would cause harm to our soldiers? The guy burning the Qurans or the media? Jones burning the Quran is just some guy burning books until the shock seeking media blows the story up and spreads it across the entire world. Not one Muslim in any other country would have even known about this had our media not told them.

Third, Ever since the whole debacle over the mosque at ground zero all I have heard from the media and high ranking people of Islam is that Islam is a religion of peace, that they are not extremists as a whole. They also say that the extremists are very few. If this is truly the case then what is all the fuss about this guy burning their holy book? If Islam is truly about peace then our soldiers would not be put in harm’s way by someone burning a few books.
