The report starts out telling that two men one they refer to him as Livers and the other as Sampson. The story goes that two people were found brutally murdered in their home. The first suspect the police had was the couple’s 28 year old nephew (Livers). After a lot of police interrogation Livers admitted his guilt and also implicated his friend named Sampson. Even with his confession the police needed more evidence to convict the boys so they had one of the best known CSI investigators go over the boy’s vehicle. The investigator found a single drop of blood in the vehicle. Then the police found out that another couple were actually the murderers, thus completely proving the original boys innocence.
This story is incredible right from the start. In the report it says that the Livers boy was given a polygraph and said to have failed it. Come to find out the polygraph results were read wrong so he didn’t fail it. Second the confession was forced by the police interrogator. The interrogator led Livers to an untrue confession. Third the guy they had search the vehicle was looking for a piece of evidence that would seal the deal on their confession. It truly baffles me that this kind of injustice can be seen still today. It really makes you wonder how many people are in jail or prison right now that are innocent. How many people lost their lives to an overzealous prosecutor that wanted to win that big case? Whats even worse is that now they are reviewing every case this investigator has worked on so far. This means that there is a chance that people that were rightly convicted before might go free because of his supposed mistake on this one case. I think its time that the government finds some better checks and balances in the justice system to prevent things like this from happening again.
